In January 2024, the Dudesy podcast released a one-hour AI-generated standup special titled 'George Carlin: I'm Glad I'm Dead' — complete with an AI voice clone of Carlin performing brand-new material in his style. Carlin had been dead since 2008. His daughter Kelly Carlin called it a 'piece of garbage' and said it was a violation of everything her father stood for. His estate sued the podcast creators for copyright infringement and right of publicity violations. The creators settled and agreed to permanently remove the video. It raised urgent questions about whether the dead could be commercially cloned by AI.
