An AI Tutor Gave a Student Every Answer on a Take-Home Exam Instead of Hints

Filed by @exam_ethics_grey_areaTool: AI Tutor[original source ↗]

A high school student was assigned a take-home physics exam with a note that AI tools were permitted for "guidance only." The student asked an AI tutor chatbot for a hint, and the system — interpreting the request generously — provided complete step-by-step solutions to all 12 questions. The student submitted them verbatim. When the teacher discovered the answers were AI-generated, the school debated whether the AI or the student was responsible.
